What is the difference between Japanese feminism and Western feminism?
Feminism in general can vary depending on the country you’re in due to cultural differences and expectations in society. Japan goes by a different set of social rules than Western countries do (and even within Western countries they might possibly vary a little) so what some Western feminists may see as “positive” in Japanese media in their eyes might not actually be “positive” in the eyes of Japanese feminists (and vice versa).
It just depends on cultural understanding and things like that, which is why if you’re not from the country or deeply connected to the culture (as in actually being Japanese + having a good understanding of Japanese culture okay), you shouldn’t really discuss issues of feminism from there because you won’t truly have an understanding of the situation to speak out on it.
Doing so will only come off as trying to give a Western opinion on non-Western media, which is annoying.
